Similar to his still photography, Daniyal’s motion picture films seek to document human stories, culture, and moments. In a world that’s overexposed to high-definition video screens, shooting on celluloid film brings a sense of texture, character, tangibility to the subjects, and activates the senses of the viewers who engage with it. There is also an inherent romanticism in using a finite material like celluloid film, which makes treasures out of even the most mundane scenes of life. A further element to Daniyal’s practice is his pursuit in understanding the dialogue between film and architecture. To formulate a narrative, using structure, spatial sequence, and a visual language, is a very architectural undertaking. This adds another dimension to Daniyal’s art practice, where he explores what’s beyond architecture, and its capacity for telling stories. All these factors coalesce in Daniyal’s work, producing unique and visual tapestries.
